Following a call for applications in 2020, the SUMP-PLUS team selected 19 towns and cities from 12 countries in all regions of Europe to join the Follower Cities Group. The group, representing local authorities both large and small, is participating in a series of exciting knowledge transfer activities linked to the six SUMP-PLUS co-creation City Laboratories, forming an integral part of the project’s sharing and learning community.
The Follower Cities are each assigned to one or more relevant City Laboratory, and will closely follow the actions, learn from the leading cities, and offer them feedback concerning their implementation activities. After an observation period, Follower Cities will deliver an action plan outlining how they themselves can go about developing and applying the related measure(s). Beyond this, the Follower Cities are part of a knowledge exchange programme and attend site visits and workshops; these will enrich and deepen their knowledge of sustainable urban mobility planning. Later on in the project, they will also serve as mentors to other cities in the SUMP-PLUS train-the-trainer programme, together with the six SUMP-PLUS City Partners.
